a brief history of pi-dye
About 6.28 years ago, I was still in high school, and was enjoying the life I was carving out for myself as a math geek. Not only was I in the math club, the science club, in various math competitions, but I had also taken Calculus when I was 14 and passed the AP BC test when I was 15. Math was my bread and butter. So, it was natural that my sense of humor fell along those lines as well, and, one Saturday morning, I took the phrase "Easy as Pi" and made it into a number of simplistic designs. I didn't pick anything back up until 3.14 years later. I was already out of high school, and I was nearly graduating from college when I remembered all the work I had done. I decided to pick it all back up, and I made half-a-dozen with the intention of producing them as t-shirts. Well, life began to happen very quickly at that time and another 3.14 years later (now), I found myself with a house, wife, and kid. Yeow! Finally, I've been able to pour my heart and soul into getting this long-belated dream of mine. The original six designs have now blossomed into nearly 30 and counting. The company itself is young, it officially opened for business back in April 2005, and it has been an adventure ever since (you can look at the blog on the front page for periodic updates)!
the mission of pi-dye
Though many say that mission statements are corny, I will tell you the goals that I have in mind with creating and publicizing this website. First, I believe one secret to happiness is doing something that you love, and so I took one thing that I love, and I've created this lovely website. Second, my pi-in-the-sky hope is to promote excellence in mathematics. This year we held a t-shirt design contest with a local high school, and my hope is to get a big enough name that we can do really significant things for math programs everywhere. Third, geekiness loves company, right? May I and this site be a companion to you in your long journey through life. :)
